Half-Day Fun!

HALF-DAY FUN!!!

The school agers had a great few days of fun at Joyful Noise! The kids enjoyed making crafts with yarn and other recyclable materials (like these Christmas card sampler bookmarks) and playing in the snow. Miss Bev taught the kids how to make cute "snow babies" (check out the picture of the tree below) and everyone was very pleased to get outside and play for a while on the "snow mountain".

We are also happy to report that our schoolagers have been talking about how much they enjoy eating lunch and snack at Joyful Noise on snowdays and half-days. We love seeing their gap-toothed grins for family style meals and we treasure the special moments that we get to spend with them during school closings and holidays!

In case you are curious about what's on the table at Joyful Noise, please bookmark our menu! Also make sure to check our calendar for JN events as well as GHAPS school closing information.

Frank, The Amnesiac

Teacher: "What are you guys up to under the loft?"

Schoolagers: "This is our hospital!"

Teacher: "Oh, I see! Is that your patient laying down?"

Patient: "My name is Frank..." (Listlessly shakes head back and forth with eyes closed.) "I fell out of a plane, I think."

A Pretend Hospital Caregiver: "His name's not Frank. He has amnesia. He doesn't know who he is!"

Another Hospital Caregiver: "How many fingers do you have on your hand?"

Frank: "Five, I think."

Our schoolagers had a blast on their late start morning yesterday! It's not too often that we get a chance throughout the school year to really get down to the nitty gritty and play--with the exception late starts, half days, and vacation time! As caregivers we always appreciate being a part of the unique and entertaining games schoolagers create, the special art they make, and the cooperative play that happens (like this hospital scenario above).

We also made some fun art collages!

Thanks so much for sharing your children with us!

Please remember to let us know what your attendance plans are for the holidays by emailing Office@JoyfulNoiseKids.com or looking in your inbox for the email thread entitled "Holiday attendance...your child's schedule?" so that you can fill out the attached form.

Have a great weekend!

June 19th, 2014

Hello Everyone!

We have been having an exciting first two weeks of summer! Despite the rain holding up some activities, we have been making lots of fun memories! I hope to continue to post pictures of all our fun adventures through the summer!

During the first week of vacation, the library hosted a transportation petting zoo where the children were able to look at the different vehicle that serve the Grand Haven area.

We have also worked on our Father's Day mugs! Coloring white mugs with sharpies and then baking them was so much fun! They turned out AMAZING TOO!!

We also created our own mini beaches!

Today, we created a movie theater in the rec room! There was a concession stand for the kids to get snacks from and we watched Happy Feet 2 on bean bags!

In-service fun!

In-service fun!

The schoolagers had a blast this last Wednesday playing basketball, giving each other pampering makeovers, watching movies, making apple tarts, dancing and more!

Ask your school age child what some of their favorite activities were. We'll see you for a full day on our next in-service or snow day--with the way it's been blowing around us lately, that probably won't be too far away! ;)

December 2013 Newsletter

Miss Kathy reading a Dr. Seuss favorite to our schoolagers on a late start morning! =)

HELLO SCHOOL AGE PARENTS!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! November was a great month here at JN and our schoolagers enjoyed crafting during their time off from school! We enjoyed making "Thankful" trees out of paper bags and discussing all of the people and things we are thankful for.

This month, we have many school closings and fun activities to look to as Christmas and New Years gets closer! Mark your calendar for these important dates:

Tuesday, December 17th from 6:15-7:30: The annual JN Gingerbread making night!
Join us to make festive houses this year! All you need to bring are your empty containers--milk, orange juice, etc--to build your gingerbread house. We supply the rest! Candy donations are much appreciated.

December 23rd-January 3rd: GHAPS school district holiday closings (Joyful Noise remains open)!
Please remember to let JN know right away if you have changes, additional needs or absences planned for your schoolager during this vacation time.

JN CLOSING EARLY on Friday, December 6th for our annual holiday staff event!

JN CLOSED on December 24th & 25th, as well as January 1st.

REMINDER: Please send your child with warm winter gear every day! It gets very chilly at the bus stop, and we do play outside if possible when children arrive after school, even in the snow! Our fresh air is very important to us.

Necessary gear: snowpants, boots, hats, gloves, and scarves. Dressing in layers is suggested! It's always a good idea to have extra clothes on hand in case socks or pants get wet. ;)

What else is new?

The children have really been enjoying playing hangman lately!
It's much fun to guess the words and wonderful practice for our budding readers and writers.  In the afternoons, while we play, we have been working on game etiquette and manners. You can talk with your child about taking turns while speaking, good sportsmanship, and being aware of children at different ages/development levels as we play together in this diverse environment.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday! Thank you for sharing your children with us. As always, please contact us with any questions you may have!
